Prism Design Studio, in collaboration with Crafton Tull and Councilman-Hunsaker, developed the conceptual site design for the City of Fayetteville's new Aquatics and Recreation Center. Grounded in findings from the Feasibility Study and Community Input Summaries, the team crafted a compelling vision for how a recreation center, thoughtfully integrated into an existing neighborhood park, could deliver lasting, meaningful impact.
The site offered a unique set of opportunities. The design team maximized walkability with surrounding neighborhoods, naturalized an existing channelized drainage channel that had contributed to downstream flooding, and leveraged direct trail connectivity to position the Center as a true community gathering place - a local amenity rather than a regionalized destination.
By re-envisioning the entire park rather than treating the Center as a standalone addition, the masterplan achieves a cohesive and comprehensive outcome: improved circulation and access, dispersed parking, flood mitigation, increased vegetation and habitat - all while preserving the beloved existing soccer fields.
The project was approved as part of the City of Fayetteville's Spring 2026 bond issue, a testament to the community's enthusiasm and confidence in the vision. Prism Design Studio looks forward to continuing to advance this project and ultimately delivering a treasured, well-used facility for generations to come.
What we like most about this project:
Removal of a concrete channel, adding dense canopy throughout, increasing habitat and creating a desirable stream condition.
