Prism Design Studio partnered with Arkansas State Parks to renovate the spring area at Withrow Springs State Park - the site's defining natural feature. The work sought to enhance access to the stream, remove unnecessary pavement throughout, and address erosion issues, all while honoring the area's existing character and rustic charm.
Improvements included repaired rock weirs, an open lawn gathering area, and refined entry points with plazas and stone paths leading to the spring. New sidewalks and flagstone pavers replaced aging infrastructure, and picnic tables were added to encourage lingering and enjoyment of the space. Dry stack rock walls and streamside rock terraces were incorporated to create inviting spaces to gather and relax at the water's edge. Existing masonry walls were cleaned and repointed to address long-deferred maintenance needs.
Native trees, shrubs and perennials were woven throughout the area, reinforcing the natural character of the spring while supporting sustainable, low-maintenance upkeep for years to come.
