We were commissioned by the City of Maumelle to provide planning services for a strategic plan for a community that originated as a ‘New Town’ in the 1970s and has experienced rapid growth (a 62% increase) since the 2000 census. Maumelle FORWARD: Forward Thinking, Forward Vision, Forward Progress is a community-based visioning and policy document that considers land use, community character, economic development, infill and redevelopment, transportation, recreation and open space, and sustainability over the next twenty years.

Through input from public meetings, a community survey, and the plan’s steering committee, the consultant team developed vision and goals as well as alternative scenarios for the future, which were measured by community values, physical form, growth and expansion, and fiscal impacts. A framework plan was developed from the results of the public’s scenario preferences, which guided the development of an action plan with implementation strategies, funding mechanisms and incentives, and fiscal considerations.
